What is the BEST way to make soap?

i’ve seen people make soap, and it looks like a nice gift idea that everyone would like. but i saw A LOT of ways to make it, and was wondering what was the best way. (with regular soap, goat soap?, lye?, soap from craft stores, ) how do you all make it?
ALSO is it ok to use food coloring and will it stain or color your skin? thanks
